Advisory opinion request regarding whether the Code of Governmental Ethics prohibits a St. Mary Parish School Board employee from being elected to the St. Mary Parish School Board during his employment and to serve as an elected member after his retirement.
Facts:
Noel Pisani is currently employed by the St. Mary Parish School Board as a maintenance technician/foreman. He is planning to retire from his employment with the St. Mary Parish School Board on December 24, 2026. Mr. Pisani is considering qualifying to run for election to the St. Mary Parish School Board in the November 3, 2026 election. If elected, his service as a member of the St. Mary Parish School Board would commence in January 2027, after his retirement.
