Van Veuleman is considering running for Mayor of the Town of Olla (population: 1,179, per U.S. Census). He is an uncompensated co-owner of his son's sporting goods and hardware store, C&V Outdoors, which provides maintenance materials to the Town of Olla Water and Sewer Departments. The nearest similar businesses are approximately 20 miles outside of town.

La. R.S. 42:1113A(1)(a) No public servant, excluding any legislator and any appointed member of any board or commission and any member of a governing authority of a parish with a population of ten thousand or less, or member of such a public servant's immediate family, or legal entity in which he has a controlling interest shall bid on or enter into any contract, subcontract, or other transaction that is under the supervision or jurisdiction of the agency of such public servant.
La. R.S. 42:1123(22)This Part shall not preclude any mayor or member of a governing authority of a municipality with a population of five thousand or less, or an immediate family member of such a mayor or governing authority member, or legal entity in which such a mayor, governing authority member, or immediate family member has a controlling interest, from entering into any transaction that is under the the supervision or jurisdiction of the municipality.
Ethics Board Docket No. 2025-478: The Board advised that the Code of Ethics does not prohibit a store owned by an immediate family member of a member of the Grand Isle Town Council from transacting business with the Town of Grand Isle because the Town has a population less than 5,000.
Ethics Board Docket No. 2022-567: The Board advised that the Code of Ethics does not prohibit an Alderman for the Village of Morganza or his company from transacting business with the Village because the population of the Village of Morganza is less than 5,000 people.
