The LSU AgCenter operates the Office of Youth Development, which oversees extension activities for youth throughout the State of Louisiana via the 4-H and FFA programs. The Office of Youth Development is headed by Dr. Todd Tarifa, who has served as the academic department head for the statewide program since July 1, 2021.
Dr. Tarifa's child, Alyson Tarifa, is pursuing a master's degree in Extension Administration at LSU's College of Agriculture, and the Office of Youth Development has employed Ms. Tarifa as a part-time graduate assistant in the 4-H Youth Development Department. Ms. Tarifa's employment with the Office of Youth Development was terminated on June 5, 2026.

La. R.S. 42:1112B(1) states that no public servant, except as provided in R.S. 42:1120, shall participate in a transaction involving the governmental entity in which, to his actual knowledge, any member of his immediate family has a substantial economic interest.
La. R.S. 42:1112C allows a disqualification plan to be developed in accordance with rules adopted by the Board to remove a public servant from participating in transactions that would otherwise present violations of Section 1112 of the Code.
La. R.S. 42:1113A(1)(a) states no public servant…member of such a public servant's immediate family, or legal entity in which he has a controlling interest shall bid on or enter into any contract, subcontract, or other transaction that is under the supervision or jurisdiction of the agency of such public servant.
La. R.S. 42:1119A provides that no member of the immediate family of an agency head shall be employed in his agency.
