RE:
Request for Advisory Opinion regarding whether the Code of Governmental Ethics prohibits a vendor of the Lafayette Parish School System from paying for travel for an employee.
Facts:
Laura Moreau is a Social Studies Specialist with the Lafayette Parish School System. A curriculum vendor currently utilized by the district has invited Ms. Moreau to visit its headquarters to provide feedback on instructional materials and assessments. The vendor has offered to pay airfare and lodging expenses.
Law:
La. R.S. 42:1115(A)(1) provides that no public servant shall accept anything of economic value from a person who has a contractual, business, or financial relationship with the public servant's agency.

La. R.S. 42:1115.2 provides that R.S. 42:1115 shall not preclude the acceptance by a public servant of complimentary admission, lodging, and reasonable transportation, or reimbursement for such expenses, as long as certain disclosure and filing requirements are followed.
Recommendations:
Adopt proposed advisory opinion.
