Ethics Board Docket No.2022-331 <br /> Page 4 of 6 <br /> If this matter proceeded to a public hearing before the Ethics Adjudicatory Hoard C EAB'), <br /> and the EAB found a violation of the Ethics Code,the EAB could impose a fine of up to $10,000 <br /> pursuant to La. R.S. 42:1153. <br /> In this particular matter,the parties have agreed to resolve this matter amicably. Therefore, <br /> it is the conclusion of the BOE that the interests of the public and judicial efficiency would be <br /> served through the publication of this Consent Opinion with the imposition of a $5,000 civil <br /> penalty against Dr.David Sobek. <br /> VI. <br /> ORDER: <br /> For the foregoing reasons: <br /> IT IS ORDERED that Dr. David Sobek, in his official capacity as a professor in the LSU <br /> Political Science Department, violated La. R.S. 24:*Fx1) when he lobbied members of the <br /> Louisiana Legislature during the 2022 Legislative Session regarding the teaching of Critical Race <br /> Theory through a graduate student under his supervision. <br /> IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that a$5,000 civil penalty,payable to the Treasurer of the <br /> State of Louisiana, be imposed upon Dr. David Sobek and that in the event of a failure to pay, a <br /> lawsuit may be filed to compel immediate payment of any balance due. <br />
