Your <br /> daughter-in-law, Sarah Burton, is employed by Corebridge Financial ("Corebridge") and is <br /> working to become a certified financial plainer. Her primary responsibilities at Corebridge focus <br /> on tax-sheltered annuities, specifically 403(b)plans that are 100 percent employee-funded, within <br /> her assigned region of Caddo Parish. Her client base includes eligible employees, such as School <br /> Board employees. Ms. Burton receives a salary for her role with Corebridge and performance- <br /> based bonuses determined by the number plan in which employees enroll, including School Board <br /> employees. She does not own any interest in Corebridge. The School Board currently works with <br /> 11 different providers of 403(b) plans, including Corebridge. Corebridge was approved as a <br /> provider before you became Superintendent. <br /> LAW <br /> La. R.S. 42:1113A(1)(a) states that no public servant, or a member of such a public servant's <br /> immediate family, or a legal entity in which he has a controlling interest shall bid on or enter into <br /> any contract, subcontract, or other transaction that is under the supervision or jurisdiction of the <br /> agency of such public servant. <br /> La. R.S. 42:1102(2)(a)(i) defines "agency" to mean a department, office, division, agency, <br /> commission,board, committee, or other organizational unit of a governmental entity.
