Box 107
Convent, LA 70723
RE: Ethics Board Docket No. 95 -144
Dear Judge Turner:
At its September 14, 1995 meeting, the Board of Ethics for Elected
Officials, acting as the Supervisory Committee on Campaign Finance
Disclosure, considered your request for an advisory opinion
concerning the propriety of you using campaign funds to purchase
football tickets to the Bayou Classic for constituents in your
judicial district. The Board instructed me to inform you that the
• controlling section of the Campaign Finance Disclosure Act is R.S.
18:1505.2I.
That Section prohibits the use of campaign funds for any personal
use unrelated to a campaign or the holding of public office. The
Board therefore concluded that if your purchase' of these tickets
to give to your constituents is related to your campaign or your
office, then the purchase of the tickets with campaign funds would
not be prohibited. However, the Board noted That without more
specific facts concerning the reason for yon purchasing the
tickets' it could not issue a definitive opinion as to your
question.
If you have any other questions, please call me :1L: (504) 765 -2308.
Sincerely,
BOARD OF ETHICS FOR ELECTED OFFICIALS
?(-6
Mari LeBlanc McCrory
For he Board
II I SC:mlm
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
