As an elected member of the Alexandria City Council, you are a public servant pursuant to La. <br /> R.S. 42:1102 (19).Your agency for purposes of the Code is the City of Alexandria pursuant to La. <br /> R.S. 42:1102(2)(a). <br /> The Board concluded, and instructed me to inform you, that La. R.S. 42:1111E(2)(a) will not <br /> prohibit you assisting a client in filing a lawsuit against the Alexandria Housing Authority. <br /> Pursuant to La. R.S. 40:384(16),the Alexandria Housing Authority is a subdivision of the State of <br /> Louisiana and not part of the City of Alexandria. Therefore, you are not assisting a person in a <br /> transaction involving your agency, the City of Alexandria, by filing suit against the Alexandria <br /> Housing Authority. <br /> This advisory opinion is based solely on the facts as set forth herein. Changes to the facts as <br /> presented may result in a different application of the provisions of the Code of Governmental <br /> Ethics.
