Ethics Board Docket No. 2022-444 <br /> Page 7 of 9 <br /> and the Orleans Parish Civil District Court found a violation of the Campaign Finance Disclosure <br /> Act, the Orleans Parish Civil District Court could impose a fine in accordance with Sections <br /> 1505.2)and 1505.413 of the CFDA. In this particular situation, it is the conclusion of the BOE that <br /> the interest of the public would be served by, and the parties have agreed to resolving this matter <br /> amicably through the publication of this Consent Opinion with the imposition of a $27,900 civil <br /> penalty against Karen Carter Peterson. <br /> VI. <br /> ORDER: <br /> For the foregoing reasons: <br /> IT IS ORDERED that Karen Carter Peterson, in her capacity as a candidate for State <br /> Senator,5th Senatorial District,in the October 12,2019 election,and in her capacity as chairperson <br /> of the Committee, violated Section 1505.2I of the CFDA by using campaign contributions for <br /> personal use unrelated to her campaign. <br /> IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that Karen Carter Peterson, in her capacity as a candidate <br /> for State Senator, 5th Senatorial District, in the October 12, 2019 election, and in her capacity as <br /> chairperson of the Committee, violated Section 1505.1C of the CFDA by filing inaccurate <br /> campaign finance disclosure reports. <br /> IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that a $27,900 civil penalty, payable to the Treasurer of <br /> the State of Louisiana, be imposed upon Karen Carter Peterson and that in the event of a failure to <br /> pay, a suit may be filed to compel immediate payment of any balance due. <br />
