6. <br /> Maurice Brown, at a time when he served as the Mayor for the Town of White Castle, <br /> received something of economic value, to wit: money and other things of economic value, from a <br /> federal informant posing as a representative of CIFER 5000, as a gift or gratuity, at a time when <br /> CIFER. 5000 sought to obtain a contractual or other business or financial relationship with his <br /> agency, the Town of White Castle. <br /> 7. <br /> During the time frame between November 2008 through June 2010,Maurice Brown obtained <br /> approximately$500 in cash and other things of economic value in violation of the Louisiana Code <br /> of Governmental Ethics as described above. <br /> 8. <br /> As a result of a federal investigation into Mr. Bro n's receipt of cash and gifts from CIFER <br /> 5000, he was found guilty of 11 Racketeering Influenc and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) <br /> violations and was sentenced to 10 years in a federal penit�ntiary including the payment of restitution <br /> totaling $5,000. <br /> 9. <br /> La. R.S.42:111 1 A provides that no public servan shall receive anything of economic value, <br /> other than compensation and benefits from the governm tal entity to which he is duly entitled, for <br /> the performance of the duties and responsibilities of his ffice or position <br /> 10. <br /> La. R.S. 42:111 1 C(2)(d) provides that no public servant and no legal entity in which the <br /> public servant exercises control or owns an interest in excess of twenty-five percent, shall receive <br /> any thing of economic value for or in consideration of services rendered,or to be rendered,to or for <br /> any person during his public service unless such services are neither performed for nor compensated <br /> by any person from whom such public servant would be prohibited by La. R.S.42:1115(A)(1)or(B) <br /> from receiving a gift. <br /> 11. <br /> La. R.S. 42:1115A provides that no public servant shall solicit or accept, directly or <br /> indirectly, any thing of economic value as a gift or gratuity from any person or from any officer, <br /> director,agent,or employee of such person,if such public Servant knows or reasonably should know <br /> that such person: <br /> Page 2 of 6 <br />
